Japonism
The influence of Japanese art on European art, especially in the works of the impressionists and post-impressionists.

Jonah Marbles
These sculptures, known as The Jonah Marbles, may all share a common origin. The group was purportedly unearthed together from a large pithos, or jar. The original find-spot remains unknown. Other reasons for believing the sculptures belonged together are their common material, their similarities of style and execution, and the burial deposits over their surfaces. The superb quality and condition of the The Jonah Marbles astonished the art world when they were introduced to the public in 1965 and continue to fascinate today.

Joust
A sporting combat between mounted knights. The combatants charged each other with couched lances, and often required special armor and equipment. Jousts frequently took place within a tournament.

Juste-milieu
Middle of the road. Artists who incorporated progressive and radical trends within the academic style.
