Magazine Rack: Recent Acquisitions Re-do

Submitted by Linda Ayala on

To make more of our 1,200 active journal subscriptions readily available, we expanded our Recent Acquisitions area. The shelves now include 206 magazines, journals and newspapers! In addition to the expansion, several titles have been replaced. Patron favorites such as Apollo, Architectural Record, Country Life, Hali, Koreana, Metropolis, and Modern Painters remain. Below is a list of a few new additions.

Art Africa (A20 A784sb) Formerly Art South Africa, this excellent quarterly magazine covers the visual arts in African culture, primarily contemporary works.

Bordercrossings (A20 A20 B728) Based in Winnipeg, this quarterly covers many expressions of creativity: video, painting, architecture and literature from Canada and internationally.

C Magazine  (A20 C1b) Each quarterly issue shares the visuals arts and culture based on a theme. Past issues have had interesting themes such as “Citizenship”, “Attention”, “Translation” and “The Supernatural”.

Crafts  (A20 C855c) A parallel to American Crafts (also on display in Recent Acquisitions), this magazine is produced by the Craft Council in the UK. It showcases high quality craftsmanship as well as craft as art.

Raw Vision  (A20 R257) This international magazine covers art by untrained and often unknown artists. From psychiatric wards to elaborate architectural compounds created in the country, each issue is filled with striking imagery, color and subjects.

The periodical world is constantly evolving due to frequency changes, as well as new and discontinued titles. There is always a need to rotate the recent acquisitions display, so keep an eye out for changes. Such is the ebb and flow of periodicals.
