Book Scanning

Museum Staff and CMA-CWRU Joint Program Faculty

Please print the Request for Book Scanning form; take the completed form and item(s) for scanning to the Ingalls Library Circulation Desk. (Request for Book Scanning forms are also available at the Circulation Desk and at the Reference Desk.) Items will be checked out to Photographic and Digital Imaging Services and a hold placed on the item in your name.

Museum staff may then take the items to the Photographic and Digital Imaging Services office. The library will deliver items for faculty.

All requests require TWO WEEKS to process. Digital files will be sized for PowerPoint and delivered by email. All items will be retrieved from Photographic and Digital Imaging Services by library staff and returned to staff and faculty upon completion.

CMA-CWRU Joint Program Students

Book scanning is ONLY available for items not suitable for the self-serve scanner (e.g. brittle, rare, oversized) as determined by our scanning policy and by Reference staff.

Self-serve Scanning Available

You may continue to use the self-serve scanners in the Reference area of the Ingalls Library.

Please note the information below:

Where is the station located?

  • The scan station is located in the Reference area near the microform printer/reader.
  • Instructions are located with the equipment.
  • Copyright notice is located with the equipment.

Can anything be scanned?

  • You are responsible for complying with copyright and will be liable if you do not.
  • Oversized materials and rare materials may not be scanned.
  • In addition, materials that are brittle, in poor condition, tightly bound or in any other way liable to be compromised due to scanning may not be scanned. These items will have a wrapper placed on them that says, SELF-SCANNING NOT PERMITTED. Such items may be copied using the book-edge black and white or color copiers.

Can I print scanned images?

  • No, printing is not available.
  • Images may be burned to a CD or downloaded to a flash drive.
  • Personal flash drives and CD's may be used.
  • Flash drives may be purchased at the Reference Desk for $7.50.
  • CD's may be purchased at the Reference Desk for $1.00.

What if I don't know how to use the equipment?

  • Reference staff will assist as necessary, but will not be in a position to scan for you or to spend extensive amounts of time with scanning needs.
