30,000 Years of Art...in one book

30000 Years of Art CoverOne has to admire the heft of this single volume chronology of the history of art, 30,000 Years of Art, currently in Recent Acquisitions.  By no means a complete survey, it attempts to look at the history of art differently, spending a single page on each of 1000 masterworks from different countries. The result is a book as heavy as bricks and monumental in scope. With so much history crammed into one place, it is impossible to focus on any one entry, except that it begins on the Lion Man of Hohlenstein-Stadel and ends on the Roden Crater by James Turrell. Not surprisingly, the CMA owns 14 objects displayed on the pages of the book.  N5300.A14 2007
