As part of the month-long Octavofest celebration, an exhibit of twenty-four artists’ books made by members of Art Books Cleveland will be on display in the Ingalls Library reference area. Ranging from traditional to contemporary handmade books and bound in a variety of formats, many of these books were created especially for this exhibition. Among the artists whose work is included in the exhibition are: Carole Wallencheck, Laura Martin, Ellen Strong, Jane Hammond and Karen Esper.
Except for a few books which are in a display case, most of these volumes can be handled since they are attractively displayed on open shelving in the reference area. The artists have asked that we encourage visitors to touch, read and enjoy these beautiful books.
Octavofest was begun in 2009 by Art Books Cleveland, an organization established in 2008 and dedicated to advancing the appreciation of the book and paper arts throughout Northeast Ohio. For additional information about Octavofest events and programs throughout the month of October, please their website. On Wednesday October 20th, we will host the Octavofest for Beautiful Books from the Ingalls Library Collection at 7pm, or join us for the rest of the programs that day.
