A recent article in the Plain Dealer noted the auction of a group of paintings owned by the Cleveland Museum of Art.  The catalog for this auction, which includes but is not limited to works from the Cleveland Museum of Art, is available for review on the auction catalog rack in the library's recent acquisitions area. The title of this Sotheby's catalog is Old Master & 19th Century European Art, and the date of sale is 28 January 2011. For those interested in the topic of deaccessioning, the American Association of Museums provides a code of ethics governing the process, and our reference copy of Art, Artifact, Architecture & Museum Law provide ample discussion points. Critical response to the announcement has been fairly sedate, due to the nature of the deaccessioning.
