Probably from a large group of drawings left by Fra Bartolommeo to Fra Paolino da Pistoia (c. 1490-1547), convent of San Marco, Florence; possibly bequeathed by Fra Paolino to Sister Plautilla Nelli (1523-1588), convent of Santa Caterina, Florence (the bird in the lower left, recto, in brown ink is probably the bird Monbeig-Goguel considered to be the collector's mark of Suor Platilla Nelli; see Monbeig-Goguel 1991, 453; for the Platilla Nelli provenance, see also Sotheby's sales catalogue 1957 and Fischer 1989); purchased from the convent of Santa Caterina in 1725 by Cavaliere Francesco Maria Nicolò Gabburri, Florence; William Kent, London.
